Ok so i have looked around for the problems with these spec clutchs and they seem to be quite common. What I am experiencing right now is that when i am in netural with the clutch enganged (foot off the pedal) there is a terriable noise that couds like metal upon metal or as some put it rocks in the bellhousing. As soon as i apply pressure to the pedal to disengage the clutch the noise stops until i release the pedal. Oh and this only happens when the car is warmed up. The clutch does not slip so what i think it is is that the springs on the friction disc have broke or something of that nature causeing the vibrations to slam the hub back and forth thus resulting in the noise i am experienceing. I also notice that upon deceleration there is a loud noise that is hard to explain but almost sounds as a roar or if you were to say grrr. Has anyone taken thier clutch out and seen this type of damage? or have you had other problems? If so what fixed the problems did spec work with you? what clutch did you choose next? I talked to spec earlier and they were of no help, they said that i need to take it out well DUH, all i wanted to know is if there was any problems that they knew of and he proceded to spout off some BS that they would not produce goods that had any known defects blah blah blah. Oh and it has about 10K on the new motor and clutch 16 to 20 psi daily on a 14b. Please let me know your experiences/comments. Thanks ~Patrick

Welcome to the land of Spec!! You will get nothing from them! You have a broken clutch and you need to go somewhere else to get another one. Your assessmnet is probably correct. I had that exact problem with my Spec 4 (I know the weird noise of which you speak) and unfortunately my back-up clutch was a Spec 2 non modular which is now making that noise after about 2500 miles. They are CRAP! CRAP ! CRAP! Please feel free and do a search on them.
Andy at SBC has a great reputation on the site. Spec is probably the best thing to happen to him .
