#5432, "anyone had this happen to them before? tranny related"

i just picked up my 2gnt, and the speedo is not working. i replaced the speed sensor on the back of the transmission for 150 bucks plus my labor. anyway, it didn't fix the problem. i took the speed sensor out, and inside there's a small brass looking gear. i think that it popped loose or something. what will i have to do to fix this? really need to know. thanks a bunch in advance.

It happens. You have to drop the trans and open the case to get at that gear to replace it.

link doesn't work. i am really going to try to soak up as much knowledge as i can about this, then drop the tranny and do it. so if anyone else is familiar and has some pics and what not, i'd really appreciate it. would like to get this done kinda quickly.

okay. i've got it perfect now. so the gear that drives the speed sensor just slides onto that piece. it's plastic though? i've looked down into my tranny, and from what i can tell, mine just came loose. so all i have to do is drop the tranny, drain it, and then crack it open right? of course i'll need to get the part, but it doesn't seem to me like it'll be all that bad a fix. just make sure i get a new seal. And does the gear clip in there somehow? or is it just kinda held there by being tight on the piece? Please forgive my ignorance. I'm very very new to 2gnt's with my last car being a Civic. I'm trying to break my mindset, but it's taking me a while.
