The only issue I see is the fact that the neon's use a cable clutch vs the 2gnt using a hydraulic clutch. If you can retro-fit the 2gnt clutch pedal, along with the clutch master cylinder (or if the 2001+ neon parts work), then you should be okay.

ahh nevermind then. I got a 96 neon auto and a eclipse tranny sitting here. thought it would be cool to swap it because i HATE automatics.... too much work for me

Sure you can do it. all you need is the Neon belhousing, whih i have one. The brackets might be different but those are very easy to come by since neons are in junkyard all over.
The trans you have is a 3.94 ratio and the neon trannys are a 3.55. both will interchange but the 3.94 will be more bottom end than top. Since the neon is lighter, you dont need suck a large ring gear.
IT will swap if you want to, no harder than swappign a 2gnt and parts are easier to get.
If you do go this route, i will buy the eclipse bellhousing off you.
