My tranny is grinding into 5th gear. I had a new clutch installed, and it still grinds, so this is syncro related.

My mechanic said it would probably be cheaper to buy a new tranny than to rebuild one. Is this true? What do you guys recommend I do?

5th is on the input shaft which is servicable. Depending on whether is just a stop ring wearing down, or ground down dog teeth, it could be as easy as replacing a $20 part.
