k so i'm finally putting the tranny back in after replacing my dead clutch (140k ain't bad at all). i only noticed now that one've the bolts that joins the tranny and the block is tapered. where does the tapered one go? it's longer than the other bolts but only because of the tapered tip. the treading is the same length as the others. i looked in the chiltons an stuff but the diagrams don't show a tapered bolt anywhere. i can't really see why any one of the holes would need a different bolt... or is it just to make getting the first bolt you put in easier while you're balancing the tranny on the jack an stuff?
blah. anyways yea if would be awesome if anybody can tell me where it goes.

One of the two middle holes, either near the starter or the corresponding bolthole on the bother side. it's tapered because it goes into aluminum.

i had an undertanding that those are for the 2 holes that mount the tranny to the top of the block. all the tranny's ive taken out, have tapered bolts for the top holes into the block.

You might be right. I'm dropped and installed the thing so many times i really have no idea where anything started out anymore.

Exactly, i took it being there for aligning the trans when installing since you are able to move the trans/engine from topside easier (least it is for me anyway)

haha ok i just put it in the front top one while we were aligning it. that was such a bitch. my brother had this idea to use zip ties through the bolt holes to help force it into alignment. it worked semi-decently too. they're nice an flexible so it helps when the holes are still a couple inches off.
