#4418, "stupid slave cylinder troubles"

I just rebuilt my motor, with a new ported head... before the rebuild my clutch linkage was going bad so I decided to change out the slave/master. I bought a rebuild kit for the master and slave from rockauto.com... they were both pretty cheap something like $7 and $15. Anyway the master is working perfectly now with no leaks. However the slave is another story, at first it worked fine and then the rubber seal arround the piston inside the slave shrunk by it self in 1 day and it started to leak. I thought it could be the brake fluid causing this. I was using at Valvoline dot3/dot4 synthetic. I ended up buying a new rebuild kit also Beck/Arney for the slave and then some Pyroil dot3 from Kragen... was a little more expensive. After a full brake fluid bleed the same thing happened! The rubber ring arround the piston inside the slave cylinder once again shrunk within a day and it started to release massive ammounts of fluid.

Anyone have the same problem? I am just assuming that ither this Beck/Arney rebuild kit for the slave is not made for our slave cylinder or the rubber is realy baddly made... I guess I am going to have to get a whole new cylinder. I looked on ebay/rockauto.com and found nothing... Maybe the 4g63 slave will work too, seems like it looks the same except the hose/bleed screw connections are on the wrong side. I am not paying $100+ to the evil dealership!

Or, the slave cylinder is worn enough that the rubber o-ring will never seal. Buy a new slave cylinder.

Could be, although original seal never leaked this bad, and the replacement seal only does this after a day, so it's actualy shrinking. I am going to try a 4g63 slave since its only $35 or so on ebay compared to $100... maybe it will work, maybe not.

$35 for a part that doesn't work, or $100 for a part that does... hmm...
