#4015, "Anyone know how long a shop says to change a TO bearing?"

My dads cousin is a certified mechanic and charges $35/hour for family...he's starting a business and needs whatever money he can get. Was just wondering how many hours a shop would charge you for. I know it would take me all day, just cuz i swear alot and break things...but i'd rather him do it....mostly cuz i am lazy and really, really, don't wanna pry apart my tranny.

You don't have to pry apart the trans to replace the TO bearing, you just have to get it off the motor.

yeah i know...but that requires taking out the axles, taking apart some of the suspension, then prying it pff, etc... i just want it done...and i really don't feel like doing it. This would only be the second thing a shop has ever touched my car for, the first being a full custom exhaust.

Why don't you do it with him so you know how to do it too, then buy him lunch or something for helping out? It's really not that hard.

ok....i know how to do it, and i have done it a few times on a few cars. I just don't have the time to do it...and frankly, i don't feel like it either.

Anyway...i am paying $140 for a mechanic to install my new clutch, flywheel, throwout bearing, and for him to check out my spare tranny and motor.

I can attest to Frank's knowledge, as well as relate to how jaded he is nowadays... I think that letting him do it is probably your best bet, from a frustration point of view...
