#3924, "What is the best upgrade choice for my 1995 Eclipse A578 Transmission"
I have A 1995 Eclipse GS NON-TURBO and I've been looking for some Ideas on what to do with its Trans, I don't know if someone actually sells syncro and gears to upgrade my transmission for more torque. Is there a better transmission that fits my car? I know the 2003 Neon Trans does but its torque limit of 165 pounds that isn't going to cut it at all. I’m going to take a guess on whether or not the SRT-4 Trans can fit in my non-turbo it looks the same in pictures. I’m just not sure if the mounts match up. Or maybe there are specialists that handle upgrading transmissions. I don’t know. What is the best choice for upgrading power? Maybe there’s a limit to how much power I can have?

If you want to retain your slushbox, there is a mod which uses the final drive from a cloud car or something, but if you're considering swapping trannies altogether, you should do a search on converting over to the NV-T350 found in the MTX 2GNT. It's been a done more than a few times and a search of the perf/engine forum (and the transmission forums within) should give you what you're looking for.

Guys i know you were confused cause he called it an A578..we are acustomed to call it a NV-t350...you guyd did not notice he said Syncros....do ATX have syncros??
BTW the torque rating on your trans is lower than what it really can handle...
It will handle 300 FT/LBS
It should be Fine...and yeah if your Syncros are allready worn just replace with OEM

You guy's are missing the point. I know what the NV-T350 (A578) can do because it is the same transmission that I have in my eclipse now, but in a neon. So is the F5MC1. There all the same. Even transmissions in GM’S Cavilers and Sunfires are almost the same as these. Sure the 2003 NV-T350 model was updated a little to handle 165 ft/lb torque instead of the normal 135 ft/lb torque in the older models. Only 165 ft/lbs of torque please. That sinks, really that's sad if that is the best there is. I need to know if there's something out there that can handle at least at the minimum 300 ft/lb torque. Or can I upgrade my Trans now to handle that much.

The diff is the weak link. Buy a Quaife, and you're pretty much gold. You'll most likely never make enough power to consistantly break tranaxles.
Different parties have run upwards of 400ft/lb of torque through these transaxles. They're surprisingly tough.
Don't trust the ratings.
