If it has the sensor you may have to swap it i am not sure but if you do then just remove it and pope the little gear off the sensor and it clips on to your sensor. I thought the 02 neon sensor was the same as ours.......check autozone website for part numbers to be sure.

Bellhousing is the same, swap the levers if they are different and the mount you should be good to go. I cant remember but i thought the 02 shift levers worked fine.....i have only worked with the first gen neon tranny but congrats good find Mike.

i just bought it because i got a 02 neon trans for $500 shipped with only 5,600 miles on it rather than paying the $750+ for eclipse tranny's with 80+ thousand miles on them. better deal and from what i searched and read, better for boosting.
so terry, the speedo gear is actually on the sensor?

Absolutely mike. there are two gears, one on the Diff (speedo ring gear), one on the sensor. they are a mated pair, therefore the sensor gear on your 394 tranny will not mate to the speedo ring gear in the 355 tranny. The sensor should be the same, i am pretty sure.

Does the Neon trans have the counter weights on the shift levers? If it does then you need to either cut the weights off or swap levers. I have read about people cutting the weights off.

Give me a ring tonight or tomarrow if you need, after 6pm my time 7pm yours.

Well for the shift levers they may have to be switched and the mount too. As for the speedo gears though IIRC you use the neon sensor and the gear. Now if you don't have the sensor then you will need to switch. But if you have both the sensor and the gear then you just do the wireing.. Don't quote me on this though. I know I will have to change the gears when I switch because I have to swap the quaife so....

Actually if i recall the 02 tranny is spec'd to handle 10ft/pds of torque over the 394 and previous designs. There was a page on the main site detailing it but i cant find it now.

James sometimes i think you are so dense its not funny. I know its a 3:55 did i ever say it wasnt? It has a capacity of 165ft/lbs of torque while the 394 has 135ft/lbs. where does it say in my posty that a neon trans is not a 3;55. I was installing a 3:55 while you were still asking what the point of it was!

And, I don't want to help anybody who would run off to ask Siu... That's, like, 3 strikes, before I even talk to you.

I'm glad you all are so excited to discuss this topic. There is a lot of text here so I have a question I can't seem to get a direct answer to. With the 2002 tranny swap complete, what is the max MPH our cars can expect to reach? given the engine has the correct mods to bring it to top speed? (whatever that may be) in a reasonable time frame.
