I just rebuilt my tranny, replaced the fifth gear fork along with a complete syncro rebuild and the damn thing still pops out of fifth. When I'm driving around and go to put it in 5th it goes into fifth and its very loose, like there is some kind of play in it, it doesn't seem to want to hold it in place. Does anyone know what causes this I'm pretty pissed about the whole situation.

Make sure the bushings are good on all the shift cable ends. Did they replace 5th gear when they did the syncro "rebuild"? If the 5th syncro was damaged, the dog teeth on 5th probably were too. Replacing the syncro is only half the solution.

Actually the bushing kit was replaced with a bearing kit so i know thats not the problem, and yes I did replace 5th gear as well, I don't think its hitting anything under the battery, everything is really smooth until 5th. Once in fith its just very loose and then pops out. Any other ideas? I'll check to make sure its not hitting anything under the battery tray.

If I hold it in its smooth no grinding at all but as soon as I let go of the stick it will pop out, no grinding what so ever, its very smooth when i hold it in place,no vibrations at all.

Sounds like they didn't actually replace 5th.
