#3722, "Disassembling the tranny"

Last night I put a new tranny in my car b/c the last one made a terrible grinding sound while it was in neutral. (no its not the TO bearing either) Now that I have the new one in, I think I will take the old one apart and check it out. Do you guys have any idea what could be making a terrible grinding sound when not even in gear? Its also pretty hard to turn the damn thing. If I cant figure it out, I'm sure someone will at least need the bellhousing. I may take a sledge hammer to the other half just for being a PITA and causing me trouble. Ideas?

I bet you your diff is falling apart. It only grinds when it's rolling right?

Sounds very similar to what happened to mine.

I might be interested in your bellhousing, I picked up an '02 neon tranny, but the bellhousing is cracked pretty badly and is unusable. what would you want for it?

Probably the output shaft roller bearing coming apart, or a needle bearing under a speed gear failing.
