Okay here's the deal...I realize that i'm treading on enemy turf here being that i am not an eclipse owner, but i do have a nv-t350 transaxle. It has always made a little noise in fifth gear but i always had attributed that to being a "neon sound". My g/f needed to use it for commuting to work and after two weeks when i got my car back ('98 dodge neon highline...little or no mods but still the bain of hondas everywhere) the noise had spread to 3rd-5th gear. Within 50 miles the noise was in all five gears....when to my friends shop and spent the day pulling the trans. When we got everything apart here is what we found.....

Sorry the pics are so big but i hate it when people post pics that don't show the problem...or are the size of a postage stamp. Fluid looked great...had just had it replaced recently mixture of gl-5 and schwebco?...no shavings or at least not big ones. Pulled it all apart and found this (as well as a small rock still can't figure out how the little f@#%er got in there.

I can't find anywhere online that sells the internals for the tranny...any ideas? Is it a dealer only part? Or would my dealer even have it?

you can pull the part number from the main page. Call bob kise.

Other then that, sorry I cant be of much help. I just barely went 5-spd and am still learning.

Hopefully darkone can get in here. Search for "Shaft" and something should pop up here.

Enemy? we are all 420 powered cars and share tranny parts... no enemies here.

oh and ONLY use Chrysler stuff in your tranny. Nothing else.

Two things throw me here:

I've never seen an output shaft roller bearing do that kind of damage.

I've never seen an output shaft taken apart like that. Technically, the T350 output shaft is "non servicable" and they fix it by replacing the whole unit. I've always wanted to take one apart, though ;-(

Your options:

Find a replacement transaxle and swap it in,

Find a replacement output shaft and buy a new output shaft roller bearing.

here's an update...

It is an output shaft...i believe the damage to have been caused by a small rock that i found in the case...the shaft is suprisingly easy to take apart (if you have a hydrolic press)...once you get the top two gears off everything else is held on by two snap rings...the problem that i think i'm running into is that it's "non-serviceable" (ran into the same problem with my starter but you can use the internals from a 80's BMW M3 to rebuild it)...if anyone has any ideas i would love to hear them. Don't pay too mauch attention to the missing pieces of the bearing i accidentaly dropped them when i was removing everything...the scratches were the only things there prior to my clumsiness....

Man i hope i don't have to buy a whole new unit that would be very pricey

thanks for the help guys

It's not. There are more than one 3.94 final drive output shafts floating around here, try asking in Sale/Wanted.

Other than that, i've found complete T350 transaxles in the boneyard for $300.
