Firstly I want to address this “stock blue pressure plate “ ignorance. Anyone who thinks our Neon plates are stock needs to compare stock to stock the Neon unit to ours. They are clearly not the same in appearance or performance. Our units are 600psi higher in clamp load and 1000 rpm higher in rev capacity. We invite anyone that is in the B’ham area to come by our facility and watch the production process for those clutches. The covers are stamped by the oe provider, but that is the only component in the clutch system that is stock. No clutch company stamps their own covers for the Neon. No one! And most use the OE non self adjusting Luk pressure plate. I am not registered to post on that forum, so I would greatly appreciate for this explanation to be posted on the forum by a registered user like yourself.
Secondly your parts are guaranteed by SPEC and would like to know how your mechanic deemed the pressure plate faulty. What about the appearance of the pressure plate makes him think it is faulty? We need the unit or pictures to see what he is speaking of. We will replace any faulty piece in the system.
The conversation at neons.org posted above has a lot of interesting discussion regarding pressure plates and their quality. Apparently, Howell has the market on the PT pressure plates used with the SPEC clutches.

Thats odd. We had a brand new spec pressure plate put on a plate load tester and it came out to approx 1200 ft lbs. Stock is approx 1000. Not exactly 600 more hehe..interesting thread though..

I have personal experience with two separate SPEC stage 3 clutches in particular. Both seem to have an improperly designed pressure plate. I'll never buy a SPEC clutch again.

The Spec tech keeps referring to the Neon pressure plate, i would think ours has a slightly higher clamping load. if thats true then his info could be correct, i duuno. I think its piss poor however to keep referring to our engine as a neon. yes i know same bedplate design but they are two different cars. If i wanted to here neon all the time i would have bought one!
