#2667, "How to tell a SOHC tranny from the rest"

Is there any way I can tell from the outside of the tranny what kind it is. I am getting one from a junkyard, but I want to make sure it's a SOHC tranny before I shell out the bucks for it. Any marks or anything you guys can tell me will be greatly appreciated.

Lets just say this... I'm over 100whp and soon to cross 200whp. Thanx 2GNT! Now if I could only learn to prove it.

Uhhhhh, see if is bolted to a SOHC 420a in a Neon? That's my best bet. Next to that, though, you could probably run the VIN stamped into the tranny and see what kind of car it came from.

Great idea. I looked up decoding the VIN on a Neon. Yes I searched..WOW. This is what I came up with, for future reference.

Eighth Digit (Engine):
C (2.0L SOHC)
Y (2.0L DOHC)

You don't need the VIN. Look at the ID tag on the transaxle's bearing cover, and make sure it matches what is specified or a SOHC Neon trans as listed on the main site.
