I believe that the clutch is showing some wear on my 98 GS, so I know I am going to have to replace it soon. Also 5th gear in my tranny is worn pretty bad, sometimes while crusing on the highway it doesn't like to stay in gear under any kind of a load. I would like to take care of all of this at once, and I figure while I am at it I may as well stick in a LSD.
My father actually designed a LSD for the FWD L67 GM cars, ie Grand Prix GTP, Buick Regal GS's. He actually uses clutches behind the side gears and an optional spring setup like the PG's on top of the clutches. He races his GTP and pulls low 12 second quarter miles. I would be confident that it would hold about 500 hp. His website is www.c-ya-racing.com Has anyone experimented with a setup simlar to that in the DSM's?
Can someone also give me some advice on what type of clutch to install? I am looking for a decent clutch for a daily driver, but something that will handle some power, because at some point I would like to put a HRC Stage III on the car. I have also seen some people putting the SOHC 3.55 Neon tranny into the DSM's. What are your opinoins of this? I know they have a little taller gears, and I have heard that they can handle a little more power, is there any truth to this?
