#8514, "Stiff shifting under heavy accel"

lately i've been dealing with stiff gears whenever under heavy acceleration. i changed the fluid with dealer specific fluid about 30,000 miles ago, my master cylinder seals blew and trashed my clutch about 10,000 miles ago...put new seals on, and had South Bend rebuild the clutch hub shortly thereafter. my question is, is this possibly a synchro issue or gear wear? it happens in all 5 gears but most prevelent in 2nd. getting out of gear isnt so tough but going into the next is where the problem is. now under normal/easy driving conditions i get an occasional 2nd gear grind telling me my synchro is prob bad for that gear...but other than that no issues arise. any ideas? thanks in advance.

IS it stiff with the car off? If not then i would suspect your clutch isnt fully disengaging.

no it's only still when on and under heavy acceleration. clutch was my initial though too, but the thing that gets me is the clutch system (clutch itself rebuilt, master cylinder rebuilt, lines bled etc) was redone maybe 10,000 miles ago. would the clutch bolts maybe being even the slightest bit out of torque spec cause this? like maybe 53 rather than 55ft lbs.

on second thought...whenever i'm idle (off or on) and depress the clutch i hear what sounds like a spring being compressed coming from my clutch fork area. what is that and would that cause it?

As far as the sound....As spring is being compressed but the sound your hearing makes me wonder if you have a dab of grease on the pivot ball of the clutch fork. If that dried out while you replaced the clutch then you will get a small creak kinda like the creak you get when you step on a bad wooden staircase only quieter.

Under heavy accell I would say to bleed your clutch system a little more. It sounds like the trans is still rotating too fast to get the outer slider to move. There are metal ball detents installed between the inner and outer slider of each gear selector to prevent you from trying to shift while still engaged. I think this might be your problem.

Torque of slave is not the issue. few pounds isnt going to make any difference.

Terry
