#1398, "safing brackets question (kinda long)"

Well I got my car back from having my clutch and PG installed today. I picked it up and about a mile into the drive home the speedo stops and I get a code 15 cel. So I think oh great they forgot to cut down the safing brackets. I take it back and they look at the speedo cable and it was not hooked up. So they quickly try to reconnect it and they think they got it, so I take it for a test drive. Nothing changed so I asked the guy how much he cut from the safing bracket. He told me that he did not have to cut it he had about an inch or so of room from the bracket to the speed sensor. I tell them that I was told it had to be cut but he was sure that he had enough room. They told me to leave it and they were going to check the speedo cable more in the morning. Do you think that the cable is the problem or do you think it is the brackets? Let me know so if it is not the cable I will have them crack the diff again. Thanks

It looks like the brackets are going to clear the speedo gear on the diff but i think the actual gear on the sensor will get knocked by them. Chances are its the brackets, but I really dont know the exact reason why they need to be cut. Those brackets are a generic part, they are not made JUST for our diff.

Damn thats is what I was thinking. I really dont want this guy to have to open the diff again to cut the brackets that is a lot of work. Oh well if he cant figure it out as being the speedo cable I will have to tell him to open it up and redo it. Thanks

Well I was right it was the speed sensor and gear that was broken. The shop ordered new ones and said as soon as it comes in they will do an all day job on it to get it done quick. They gave me the car for the weekend to start the breakin of the clutch. I already have about 50 miles and I can feel the clutch grabing more forcefully. Well only 450 more to go, and I cant wait to launch this thing when it is all broken in.
