I'd be surprised if it did, 1st Gen Neons and 2GNt don'e share the same auto trans. Their's is a 3 speed ours is a 4.

Absolutely not. The A670 valve body will NOT fit the A604. The best thing you can do for your A604 is a high stall, stratus drive gears, an oil cooler, and eventually a rebuild with better clutches and such.

The valve body won’t work on your 2gnt auto tranny but you can put the neon 3 speed in your car w/ all that stuff listed on Howells site and have basically a built proof auto tranny. The stock 3 speed was tested my Mopar to be good to 390 ft lbs of torque (stock) w/ all the extra stuff available for it only make it that much stronger.

I have been talking about this whenever I can. I talked to Gary Howell and he thought it should be a pretty easy swap. The only concern I can see are the axles. You would have to take the inner CV off the neon axles and put them on the ends of you stock ones or have Driveshaft make you some. I am going to do this tranny set up soon. I am already looking for a good deal on a junk yard tranny. If you wanted a new 3 speed you can get then for like ~800.00 from the dealer.

Oh and there isn’t a computer to worry about so it makes it that much easier.

I know of no one who has done this yet so I guess I will try and be one of the first. I will hopefully be started by mid summer.

Brian

What would the advantages be of dropping to a 3 speed over a 4 speed tranny???

Hey Brian- I have the same plan... let me know what you find. I think I'll be able to use a AF/x ECU and the Neon tranny and raise the redline from 6500.

>stretch your gear ratio and slow you down.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! HA

You have no clue what you are talking about!

Almost all the 9 second Neon’s you see run the 3 speed

It is by far stronger than the NVT in stock form.

It will allow you to get better 60's

It will allow you to get better 1/4 mile times

It will allow you to run VERY consistent 1/4 mile times

It may slow you down but it won’t slow me down.

Call HRC and talk to Len and ask him why he went from his MTX to the Level Ten auto (the Level Ten auto tranny is a built up neon 3 speed) you can buy a used one and build it up yourself or buy one from Level Ten. Len is running 9's, I guess if you think that is slow then you keep your tranny and have it break when it starts to see higher HP.

This is all w/ the build ups to it of course. Like the 3000 Stahl Converter, the valve body mentioned above, PG, rebuild kit, etc, etc, etc...

Talk to people before you say things like that. I talked to Gary and then Len then FFWD and they all said it was a VERY solid tranny to run.

But hey if it slows me down any I will just up the boost

It's a different story when you start pushing a lot of power. On a normal street car, even most street strip cars, you legnthen out the gears you slow down. On high hp applications you want a taller final gear, because you have the power to use it. longer times between shifts is a good thing, if your power level supports it.

You can't pull the trans from a 500hp drag car and drop it into a 150 hp street car and expect it to pull good times. Yes the auto is good for consistancy, but you will always have more drivetrain power loss to an auto than a manual.

If I were auto, I wouldn't swap because I take road trips, I want an overdrive cruise gear.

Exactly, that is my whole point. It may slow a lower HP car but it will help me out. I push big power but you don’t have to have 500+ for it to be beneficial. It’s a completely different auto tranny that what you are used to on the stock 2gnt.

But I still wouldn't want to drive one on the street, my left foot would get bored.

Can you still do the final drive mod on the 3 speed tranny?

That might be a dumb question..
