Start by removeing the Diff cover:


Remove the axle retainers: (+ extention if used on caravan)



Picture of other side (caravan):


Gently/Slowly pry the retainer out of the trans:


Its removed!


The diff should be kinda cocked and readt to be removed:
(be sure to clean useing laquer thinner)

Of course while your checking this out check for burn marks (blue in color) and of course signs of binding... which you shouldnt have while u hold this in your hand u realize its basicall bullet proof. with the exception of thos tabs of course

Couple of Questions:


What to look for when inspecting the pins? play? color?

Can you provide some notes on assembly of this thing back together? torque? clearences? special tools?

If I was to inspect the diff by just removing the cover would it be ok to spray a little brake parts cleaner to clean things up?

Mods: New spark Plugs NGK, Fresh ATF, K&N, AGX, UDP and ZipTies tieing the strut towers (according to BlackMagic increases my torsional rigidity)
I know spark plugs are not a mod but the car runs so smooth now.

#1 always line all bolts with rtv sealant or 18718 loctight
#2 ring gear tq spec call for 70 ft lbs (12)
#3 axle retainer tq specs are 25ft lbs of tq
#4 diff cover tq specs are 15 ft lbs
#5 use loctight/rtv on axle retainers (around) no more than 1/4"
#6 shaft play should be between .025" and .330"
4 diff sized washers are avail from satan to accomidate
* if either side gear end play in not within spec remover the appropriate side gear thrust washer.Measure exsisting thrust washer and replace with new thrust washer that provides end play clostest to that of center specs.
