#3929, "I've been having a problem with a strange sound."
I have been searching around trying to figure out if anyone else has had to deal with this noise. I know DSM's make alot of noises, but I haven't heard anyone else talk about this one.
When I am at WOT, and reach around 5k RPM's I hear a very loud buzzing noise under my center console. It sounds like there are alot of metal cables vibrating against sheet metal. I've considered it being my exhaust somehow, but it's stock, and it's done that since I've had the car. Could it be the heat shield on the cat? I've taken off all of the heat shielding behind the cat trying to fix it. That stuff wasn't easy to get off either, I just had hand tools, and ended up ripping most of it apart rather than unbolting it.
I tried taking off the center console before, and see if I could find anything vibrating, but I had no luck. I will try to get a recording of it if I can.
Any ideas? or has anyone else's car done this? Is it more common than I think? Just thought I'd ask around.

Is it in a specific gear or at a specific speed? What made you think to put this in the A604 section? Are you having any other tranny problems that may be associated like, burnt fluid, improper shifting (too high or too low in rpm band), does the car lurch or lunge?

I put it in the A604 section because I thought it was coming from the shifter area originally, so I was thinking maybe something in the auto's shifter assembly could come loose and rattle. It might belong in general, I was just thinking "auto" when I was trying to figure it out. Sorry bout that.
It's not in any specific gear, just a specific RPM range. It's from 5k to about 6k, in all gears that I can reach that in.
I think I'm going to try to take the heat shielding off the cat, and see if that changes anything. From where I am sitting I know that the sound is coming from the shifter area, or under it if it's the cat. The sheilding doesn't feel loose, but I'll try taking messing around with it.
I was also thinking it might be a screw or bolt that came loose under the shifter, so I'll be taking that apart when it warms up.
