Ok, this is for Corbin and Wikki and any others who are AT that know their s*it.

My car is leaking insane amounts of transmission fluid but I havnt the slightest idea about where it could be coming fromx( .

I took it for a drive thru Natchez Trace here in Middle TN. If any of you dont know what that is, it's just a long stretch of road where you can pretty much drive as fast as you like. Curves all over hills here and there, its a good time. UNTIL YOUR TRANNY TAKES A CRAP ON YOU.

So here's my problem. The transmission wont engage any gears unless i build up pressure with the TC by revving the engine a lil bit. Its almost like im MT with a slipping clutch. I know my problem is the leaking fluid, so does anyone know where the most common leaking places are for the AT transmission? If i can get a good answer tonight Ill take it to the mechanic tommorow to see what he says.

Although I dont really wanna take it to a mechani but do what you gotta do.

If anyone has AOL ill clear up any confusion if you need me to explain anything else! (brohymn411 or southeastdsm).

I dont wanna invest in a rebuild unless i seriously have to. If that is the case ill fix this leaking seal (should it be a seal) and then start saving for the rebuild kit!.

thanks,
Goog

get under there and look, could be any of the seals, but I just had problems with the lines going to and from the tranny cooler the hose clamps were loose and I was leaking aLOT of fluid through that, after I tightened them up no problems, but to check look on the lower radiator hose and also on the drivers side fan shroud and look for tranny fluid/dirt builtup.

And once you get the fluid level to the correct place your tranny should engage much better, these trannies are really picky on the tranny fluid amount. But I bet your atleast 1 qt low or more to have those problems, fix it soon,
less fluid= more heat generated=damaged tranny

LMAO. ya know...there is TONS of diry on my transmission cooling lines to the radiator. BUT the leaking fluid on my drive way is more towards the center of the car. Could it somewhere follow the metal lines of the cross member from the radiator to the ground? Ill go check those lines now though. thanks. will report back whatever i find.

Well no luck it seems. Those fluid cooling lines are pretty straight lookin' to me. There doesnt seem to be anything coming of them and they arnt loose. Ill triple check them tommorow morning. Im off tommorow so will have plenty of time to take a look at the transmission. Any other places you think I should check. There are puddles of fluid, not sure if its oil or if it is tranny fluid, on my transmission. Must not get very hot where the fluid is because its been there for a long time (??? on that one).

thanks,
Goog

if not the lines. then check to see that you pan is in tact. (it's pretty thick, and I don't imagine that they damage easily) check around the pan. the bolts for those strip VERY easily. if someone has worked on the trans before, there may ba a chance of one or two bolts stripped. check the cover to your final drive (on your drivers side of the trans) make sure that nothing is leaking there. check where your axles go into the trans and see if anything is coming out.

check those cooling lines again. that and the pan would be the places that I would bet on.

we don't even want to get into what happens if you find fluid leaking from between your engine and trans (shudder).

keep that thing topped off until you find the leak. we don't want you blowing up that trans, do we?

peace

i had a problem about the same as yours and it was my tranny seal at the axle/differential. mine had tranny fluid all the way down the length of the car and seemed like it was in the center. ended up my CV boot ripped, dried out the CV Joint, and was shaking and moving the tranny seal loose. the part cost like 5 bucks, and if you know what you are doing about an hour or so to put in.
