#3374, "Just wanted to ask"

The other day, I was coming home from my friends house, and I decided to see how fast i could get going down this old road, It was a clear day, and no one was on the road, and so I turned the lockup off, and I took OD off, and hit the gas.

So at 110 I started thinking about the fact that with the lockup off, the RPM's are going to be higher, and since 3rd ends at 120, what would happen, since it would end up redlining before that, So at about 118 or so, my car started bouncing off the rev limiter, and speeding up and slowing down, it wouldn't shift into 4th. I didn't let it do that much, and started slowing down.

Has anyone else done that? It was just odd that it wouldn't shift into 4th, and usually it does at 120 no matter if OD is off or not.

Mine has always shifted into 4th at 120 when it's off. Except for that one time. I had my AC on too, that might have had something to do with it... emoji

Does however, stop accelerating when I hit 4th, or maybe its just that I stop trying at that point because I usually run out of road.

Mine goes faster with OD off. I can only get it to about 109 with the OD on.

Now this is interesting...could be a function of the transmission program

I can hit ATX full speed 120 mph (about 6 more on a downgrade emoji ) with the peddal mashed down, OD on....it shifts when you get roundabouts 110..those final 10-16 mph do take their time

This is in an Unflashed early 95 ATX trans

With some further testing. I found out that when I hit 120 with OD off. The car kinda... shifts to 4th... then back to 3rd, and just keeps switching back and forth. After it did that for a little bit, I turned OD on, and i only went up to about 122 or so. I don't have much power, but ah well, it still didn't bounce like it did before.
