#3269, "Very High fluid level?"

So i was checking my atx fluid last night and did the usual go for a drive to operating temps, put it in each gear and proceeded to check it in neutral. I was on a fairly level peice of ground, however the fluid level was, well lets just say HIGH.

Im assuming that we all have the same dipsticks if we haven't changed it, but my level was up around the crooked part of the dipstick. Meaning it was above cold, warm, and HOT, and it was about 2 inches above that... Right where the first bend is.

IMO this seems to be WAY TOO HIGH, but maybe im doing something wrong, or maybe there is something i should know.

The fluid is a duller pink color
i have 89000Mi on the transmission
there were a few small bubbles on the stick
AFAIK the tranny has never been flushed

thanks for any feedback

Too much fluid is bad. You probably want to drain it back to the right lvl. Otherwise it could mess something up.

Perhaps you are getting a false reading. I often have to clean the stick and check the level several times to get a good reading. I think the fluid splashes on the inside of the dipstick tube and can deposit itself on the dipstick when you try to check the level. If the level is truly too high, you better drain some out. You can do that by pulling off one of the cooler lines at the bottom of the radiator.

Thanks Corbin, that sounds reasonable... I have been driving 2 years with that transmission with no maintanence done to it.

So chances are if it were in fact that high, something bad would have happened by now im assuming.
