#3264, "ATX Question - Downshifting???"

What's up fellas? First off, my ride is one of my favorite toys, and I mean no disrespect to all the ATX owners, but I'm reallly about fed up with my auto tranny. Really considering swapping it out for a 5 spd. Have you guys noticed that our trannies have a mind of their own??? At first I thought it was just my tranny was going, but after driving 2 other AT eclipses I noticed it's inherent to them all. Sometimes, going uphill the tranny refuses to downshift even though I have the pedal mashed. Other times it does it at will. And sometimes it works exactly like it should. I was told recently that it uses various sensors to decide when to shift up or down... well they are a real pain the ass. Has anybody done anything to remedy this...or is it time to go manual??? God help me if I turn on the AC!!! Anyway, later.

Yes its called a TCU..

and yes thats exactly how our automatics function, dont like it?? then yes swap to a manual.
its actually the TCU trying to prevent excess heat,etc.. it will shift differently based on tons of info from many other sensors. its got a reason for not downshifting. could be excess fluid temp,etc..
