#2505, "SO SAD... HELP...Vibration when in reverse" Jan-21-04 06:03 PM by jsupetran
Hey I just noticed this weird noise everytime I shift into reverse. I can feel a vibration everytime I am in R and I think it is the tranny. I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary but this symptom came today. Anyway, help me. Thanks.
edit: Also, when I am in reverse, the tranny sounds LOUDER. The rpms are fine though so it is not like I am sucking air in from a leak.

If it's whining that is fine. To my knowledge (not sure if this applies to ATs or just MTS) reverse is a totally seperate gear (duh) but not only that it is a different shape. The gears are helical not just flat open face gears. So they wind when applied with the other non helical gears.
This may just be for the manual trans but it could have some sort of relevance to the ATs. I havnt had my car for almost 3 months now so I dont recall weird noises in reverse.
How fast are you going in reverse when you hear it?
