#1463, "YET another Final Drive Install Question- Torque on the bolts"

Heh heh...I just don't want to screw this install up...

This is refering to the bolts that need the 200 lbs of torque. If my impact wrench is rated at 240 LBS/FT, would the extra 40LBs be damaging anything? Anything bad going to happen if I over torque them by 40 lbs?

I'm pretty sure I won't get enuff leverage to use my torque wrench so it seems easier just using the impact wrench.

thanks guys

I'm pretty sure it's only 175lbs of torque, and I wouldn't overtorque it man I overtorqued the bolts on my valve cover by like 5lbs or so and it totally stripped out the threading in the head, cost me a pretty penny to fix, and dealing with your transmission you don't wanna do ANYTHING that might screw it up.

I used 175 and have had no problems at all I could be wrong and it could be 200 but 175 is what I used and overtorqueing is bad either way. If you feel kinda uneasy about the 175 or 200 issue your best bet would be to ask around to a bunch of other people that did the mod, I did 175 and had no problems but there could've been people that did that and had issues. Your best bet would be to do what I did and get as much information from PEOPLE as possible not just whats in the writeup.

Sorry to bring up an old post, but I was going to ask, does both the 32mm and the 1 1/2in both have to be torqued to 200, or is it one or the other... I am going to try to pick up the gears and a torque wrench tommorow, hopefully i will be able to torque it to 200 with only a wrench and me. I have no air tools. I hope this all goes smooth...
