I just got my shift kit in the mail and i thought maybe it would be better off if i didn't mess with the transmission and let a "professional" install it. I went to a local transmission shop and asked him about it and he said they don't install parts blah blah blah. Then he went on and said the shift kit makes it shift too hard and wrecks the transmission down the road. I was just wondering what a few people think about it and if it's worth installing on a perfectly good transmission. Has anyone had theirs in for a long time and had a problems with it? The guy also told me it would be about $170 in have it installed. Does that sound right?

First off in regards to the shift kit shifting too hard. That is really not the case what the kit does is prevent your tranny from overlapping gears and slipping gears to make the shifts feel smoother. Basically you arent loosing power between shifts and the shifts engage faster not really harder. It makes everything feel faster and you dont get the power drops between shifts. This will make the tranny last longer because it isnt taking as much wear on the gears. It is very much worth doing. With that being said I will tell you the install is not simple. I wrote one of the writeups for the kit and I recommend you read that first and read the instructions for the shift kit. Make sure that you know what you are doing and that you have the proper tools to do the job. This is one of the more difficult installs on our cars. Also if you do it yourself take things slow so you dont make a mistake and if you have a question stop and ask before you do something wrong. If done properly the kit is wonderful but if done wrong it can cause headaches. However alot of us have done it and those that have had problems have helped us learn ways to make it easier. Biggest thing is research it, know what your doing before you do it and youll be fine. Most of the things that go wrong with the install are just minor mistakes that cause big problems. Once again research it ask before you do and youll be fine. Also set aside a whole day for this one unless you have someone with you that has done it before.
