Our local club's dragday at LVD and I wanted to test some stuff out. I took the daily (the silver 96 RS with 164k (?) on it) out for some runs (10.5 comp, crower 2's, UDP, NO port on the head, different throttle bodies).

I had wanted to do some comparison runs with stock ECU vs MSnS and different throttle bodies. Just some research stuff. Unfortunately, some Hundah owner watered down one side of the track with coolant and we were relegated to only one lane. So I decided to just check out the throttle body situation. I first ran the stocker with the hump taken out (on MSnS). The best I could do was 15.205. Eh, not bad for a car that has 164k on the suspension and motor mounts etc. But I believed that the 60mm would do better.

Had to fight wheel hop and I could not speed shift. Just had to granny shift all the way through. So these times are actually a little higher than they should be, but they do show comaprison.

I then took the 60mm for a run (on MSnS). Sure enough 14.873@91.41! Yeah, pretty cool that she broke 15 seconds, but it just goes to show you what the 60mm can do for you. I'm a firm believer that as soon as you start modding up the air flow (not a CAI, but P+P intake or head, cams etc.) that the 60mm is the way to go. It would have been really cool to keep going with the other comparisons, but at that point there was quite a slow moving line for the one lane that I packed it in to hang out and actually WATCH all the guys run.

Hey, the stands are fun too

Man you practically live at the track. Cool though that you got into the 14's when you swapped out the TB. Where you using the tires that are on the DD or did you throw on the slicks from the RS?

Yeah, I get focused on stuff. Some would say to a fault, but type A personality needs competition.

Actually had such a bad year this year figuring stuff out and setting stuff up, that I didn't hit the track all that much. I had so much good luck in the last 2 years, I kind of expexcted it. Even now the Red is probably done for the season, unless I figure out the flow problems.

Ended up putting the slicks on, but I would have been better off running drag radials. I ran around 2.0 to 2.2 launches, but the motor mounts and suspension couldn't take the grip of the slicks without granny shifting and clutch riding out of the hole (just too much wheel hop. I could actually feel the engine returning to position after spinning out of the box ).

BTW, I ended up having someone drive the car home (2 hours), so that I could trailer someone else who broke. So I guess she earned her daily status that day.

Oh well, heading up to NED tomorrow. Got a buddy who wants to break 12's with his 14b on stock internals. He's just shy of 300whp and 300tq. He hit 12.04 at LVD, so he should break into the 11's at NED.
