I'm a little confused. I know that reaction time isn't counted in quarter mile time, so what is it's actual purpose? I mean, do pro racers race based on who gets to the finish line first or do they race purely on quarter times?
On one of my races, I beat this guy off the line with a reaction time of .655 to his 1.059. I ended up crossing the finish half a car in front of me, but the timeslip says his e/t was 16.323 vs by 16.499.
My conclusion was i'm the better driver (for that particular race) and he has the faster car.
But how does r/t and e.t. play in things like bracket racing etc?

YES they most certainly do!

yes, you can win a race with a slower car if you have a better reaction time

yes, that is 100% correct

Even in bracket racing, it's who crosses the line first. It's just like regula drag racing. In bracket racing, one person (if the dial in times are different) gets a head start (that head start being the difference between the dial in times) so as long as you don't break out, the reaction time still comes into play. It works out so whoever crosses the finish line first (without red-lighting or breaking out) is the person who wins.

Also, RT will not effect your total 1/4 time. You could sit at the green all day, but the clock wont start ticking until your front tires break the laser beam to start the clock. RT comes into play when you are drag racing. If you can get moving faster once the light goes green, the faster you will get down the track after the clock starts ticking(trying to get the advantage to beat the other guy first)

I beleive you are a little confused on how bracket racing works. yes if you have a slower 'set' time then your light will go green first.. but that's neither good nor bad. the goal is to get as close to your 'set' time as possible without going faster. so the goal is to be more consistent then your opponent. and if you finish closer to your set time without going over then you will cross the line before the other guy. bracket racing is almost all about the driver, it evens people out to their driving skills and not how faster their car is.. bracket racing owns!

when you race bracket's you dial in you ET. what you are trying to do is get as close to that et without going under it. if you do it's called breaking out. if you breakout and your competitor doesn't, he wins even if he doesn't even come close to his et as long as he doesn't breakout also. the main object is to get as close to your ET as possible. if you can do that you will win everytime.....

Yup, bracket racign is all about drivers skill, and knowing what's going on, You will see a good dirver know he's going to beat his settime and lift off teh throttle so he doesn't get disqualified by breaking out.

as stated above you just want to be in front of the other car by a 1/2 a car length. that will almost garentee you a win every time. and that is a tip i got from a PRO Import namely Jeff Hill who has the fastest DSM in the Northern East Coast at 9.8 at 151mph
