#2450, "shift points in 1/4 mile."

from the 2gnt faq page:

"These are the shift points used:
1st gear: 5800
2nd gear: 7200
3rd gear: 6500 - 7200
4th gear: 7000
(when shifiting, don't let off the gas, and release the clutch FAST).
"

Is this still the current recommended way of shifting?

ahh, why so damn low in 1st gear?!??!

Redline 1st! even if you're stock! Our 1st gear is so low, that even stock, if the torque drops off at 7000 rpms, you are still putting more powr to the ground than you could at any rpm in 2nd gear.

And, in a 1/4 mile, you should never see 4th gear. I still don't, even running 15.4 1/4 miles, I am redlining 3rd as I cross the finish line.

My shiftpoints are all at redline (well, a hair above redline, 7100 or so) with my mods the car breathes enough where it is worth it.

If you were completly stock, I'd still redline 1st, and maybe shift out of 2nd into 3rd at about 6700-6800 rpms or so, then if you had to go from 3rd into 4th (which stock, in the 1/4 mile, you would NOT) I'd shift into 4th at 6500 or so.

AND... I always lift to shift, I just shift and move my feel REALLY fast, it doesn't seem to negatively affect my 1/4 mile times emoji

Thank Todd, I thought that sounded weird. You should update the FAQ page with your shifting techniques. emoji

Another related question.. is it bad to chirp second on the track? I mean, does it slow you down or is it irrelevant? Heh, i know it sounds cool, but I realized long ago that 'cool' isn't neccessarily 'best'. emoji

I would try not to, but sometimes if the traction sucks it will happen anyway. Tyr to be fast but smooth onthe shift, don't *try* to chirp 2nd and you'll be fine.

And you are 100% correct, "cool" isn't always "best" !!!

Me too, when I spray emoji. I redline every gear on motor, when I spray I shift like this:

1st gear: 6000 rpm (so that I can get into second and start the N20
2nd gear: 7200 rpm
3rd gear: 7000 rpm
4th gear: It's over shortly after I shift to 4th

Oh, and I spin a LOT in second I have to feather it until I find traction, so just try to keep the wheelspin to a minimum. Chirping isn't a bad thing at all... just don't light them up like I do.

i find keeping the gas pedal smashed to the floor after shifting from 2nd -3rd and 3rd to 4th helps with my times. i tried shifting every gear and i ran slower... but first to second i push in cause i spool up so quick in first to second cause i launch at around 4500 rpms.. emoji
