#2069, "97 RS and 95 Z24 - also question about final drive"

I have a 97 Rs w/ exhaust and intake and friend has a 95 cavalier z24 (2.3L 160hp) w/ exhaust and intake. We're both auto, and raced the other night a few times w/ me getting spanked quite badly all the time. I usually lost by about 2 cars.

I will be doing the final gear drive mod this week, and I'm wondering how much of a difference I'm going to see. Will i still lose by 1+ cars?

btw, i ran on stock 14's with 2 12" subs in the back.

TIA

The final gear mod makes a huge difference, IMO. You should be able to run with him, and maybe even win. I think those 95 cavaliers only has 150-ish hp, and doesn't accelerate as fast as the twin-cam ones.

I assume you know how to powerbrake with your auto. Also, try practicing chirping second (let off the gas for a split second and then apply them when you reach 6k+ rpm).

Good luck, and let us know of your results.

The Z24's have a 2.4l DOHC 4-Cly 150 H.P. The regular Cavaliers have a 2.2L OHV 4-Cly 115 H.P.

My brother had a 1999 Cavalier with the 2.2l and 3 speed auto with RK Sport intake and exhaust and it ran 17.5@80 MPH

This is true for all the years EXCEPT 1995. The 1995 z24 is the major oddball in the bunch. It runs a 2.3l dohc at around 150-160ish hp. And it is quite the b*tch to get parts for.
