#1979, "4g63 vs. 67 mustang"

me and my friend are gonna race friday night on a roll of 50mph. I have a 1990 non turbo 4g63 with an injen intake and a k&n filter, thats all. He has a bone stock 289 V8. Both cars are manuals. Oh yeah, afterwards we are going to dinner together, with the loser paying of course. Do I have a shot at this guy or should I start saving my pennies for a dinner bill?

is the mustang a 3 speed?

and, does it have just one 2 barrel carbeurator?

if so then it shouldn't be that fast, from what I have been able to find out (and I'm not sure how accurate the info is) the low end V8 mustang in '67 had 200 or 225 gross HP (which would be about 20-30 less net, which is how HP is measured today)

my dad always said the lowest level V8 option with a 2 barrel on the old cars were slow (well, relatiely speaking)

Depends on the 289. That 4g63 motor isn't very fast at all as I've driven one before and it was a lot slower than my 420a was. The 289 'Stang with a 4-speed can run in the 15's with a good driver, the kid down the street has one and hit 15.6. Plus they have a lot of torque on you. I doubt you'll win but good luck.

my father has a 65 mustang gt 289 w/ 4 speed manual.. the 67 is a bigger car...my father's is done consours show condition, it's not fast..Its got some power, but Im 98% certain I could beat him w/ my eclipse. and i'm non turbo... so if it were based on us racing for dinner.... I wouldn't bring any money

some kid i used to work with has a 67 289 mustang auto. i used to think it was a great car, but we raced one night, and i beat him by 3-5 lengths, and i almost misshifted too. he might be buying a 2g soon, lol.

1964 Ford Mustang (289ci V8 w/4spd) 15.7
1966 Ford Mustang (289ci V8 Auto) 17.9
1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 15.8

I dunno who would win, because some say that the Mustang is pretty slow, anyone know how much HP and Torque?

The Eclipse NA 2.0L 4G63 has only 135hp + at most 15hp with a filter and chip.. right? So safe to say 150hp at the crank?

It seems really really close, it would all come down to, who can drive the best.. so practice your shifting!!!..
