Welcome! Hopefully this will clear up some details for you, I am sure others will add to it but here it goes.

RS = Base Model
Cloth interior, no sunroof (unless ordered special), no power options (unless ordered special), disk brakes up front, drums in the rear, probably got 14" wheels, weighs a little less than all other eclipse models, and probably no side skirts.

GS = 1 above Base Model
Cloth or Leather interior, possibly a sunroof, maybe (probably) power options, probably have 16" wheels, disks all around for brakes, and possibly have side skirts.

Other than that they are basically the same car. Same engine, same tranny's, same everything (I think) then whats listed above. Hope this helps.

you are forgetting the MOST IMPORTANT feature of the GS/ESI... I think they have a hatch release inside the car don't they? My car doesn't and it bugs the crap out of me.

the rs is the lighter by about 100lbs. But if you don't mind the extra 100 go with a 97-98 talon.they look sweet. (I have one)

98 esi A/t:
injen intake
n1 muffler
white gauges
17' adr sokodu's
coilovers 1.75' drop
obx front strut bar
3 stage metal headgasket
(should of rebuilt bottem when this was done but I'm stupid)

I noticed that no one mentioned anything about anti lock brakes. The rs does not have it, but the gs does. justin

My 95 GS doesn't have anti-lock.It optional on botht the RS and the GS.If you order it on the RS you get 4-wheel discs iinstead of discs/drums.

here aer some other RS/GS differences.

RS- Plastic door panels

GS rear wiper with squirter.
RS No rear wiper

no anti lock brakes here either.....99 gs. 16" nice alloy rims versus bad 14"?s with cheap plastic hubcaps......
Oh, and I have a power moonroof.
Basically the GS comes with all the nice options stock.

I personally love my RS. Although it does not look much like an RS. It is really fun to tell people... "it's an RS". (insert mysterious evil laugh here)

If you are going for racing get the lighter one. You can always add the power stuff you want later. Either way stick with a DSM (eclipse or talon) and you can not go wrong. Welcome aboard, now start modding. }>

my rs has power windows/locks, the infinity stereo, hatch release, cruise control, etc. The drums in the back kinda piss me off but thats what junk yards and dsmtrader are for! Welcome to the dsm world, come back often.
