Battery acid got to my back seat a few weeks ago, and ive decided that I want to look into taking the back seat out completely, and putting in a custom subwoofer enclosure instead for my dual 12's.

Basically, I want my 1g to be a two seater, and when you look behind you, the two 12 inch subs are staring back at you at a slight angle pointing upwards. This would also give me my trunk space back. I want to know how feasible this is. How would I go about doing this?

^^^exactly. it will look cool, but wont sound very good. if you want to use the backseat, youll have to build a wall for the subs to reside in..ill get a pic of my old setup in a min..

ok, heres some pictures of my old setup. in the first on you can see how i constructed it. first i built a platform contoured to the curves of the backseats and flat on top. then i built an 8 cubic foot ported box that was attached to the platform. it extended back into the trunk (as seen in the second pic). a "wall" panal with a piece of 3/4" plexi (for the rearview)was attached above it. although you cant see it in the pics, there were two side panals on either side of the box section.



in the back, you see that the amps were attached directly to the box, and recessed by a raised panal. there was another vertical panal (the one closest to the camera in the pic, on the back of the sub box) to house another amp (3 total). the dvd player was mounted on top of the raised panal and poked through the "wall panal" so that the face of it was behind the passnegers seat in the cabin. the dotted red line shows where the resesed cavity for the flush-mounted amps begain.



its really no that hard, there was no fiberglass used in the install. it comprised of about 300lbs of MDF though, lol.

edit: oh yeah...this is post wreck, so some things became shifted. the subs/amps/dvd player/etc were removed quickly and without sonsideration to the install, so thats why things are a bit rough looking, lol.

You can build a box and have the subs face forward like you said but I'm going to agree with ^^^ and say it would not sound really good. You could do that in a number of different ways. Building just a square box that would sit where the bottom of the back seat is now would be the easy or you could fiberglass it and have it be to the contours of and that way you wouldn't have to level it off like SPL did. Here's what I would do: Remove the back seat, top and bottom. Build a platform that makes where the seat was level, like SPL did. Make a regular ported box (because they are bigger than sealed) that goes from the beat seat to somewhere in the hatch space. Put a plexiglass window in the back of the box (the side of the box closet to the front) and then you can see your subs through that window. Mount your amp(s) infront of your subs (closer to the rear than the sub box). If you want it all to look nice build a cover piece that is cut to the contours of the rear seat and hatch area that will cover the sub box. This will make the box look like it takes up the whole area. Remember to cut a hole in the part of the cover piece that covers the back of the sub box, so you can see the subs through the window and holes on the other side for the subs and port holes. Wrap the cover piece in whatever you think will look best. I don't know if I explained that whole thing very well, but I can picture it, haha. Good luck man.

all in in MDF. Absolutely no fiberglass anywhere. I like everything except the amprack. And then you can still glass the front and put a racing seat back there. or maybe your amplifiers. or maybe a TV. or maybe your rear speakers. or maybe a storage tub (eeh). or maybe a spare tire (only a good idea if you have some really spiffin rims). or maybe a hot tub or slurpee machine. or maybe NAWZ, THREE OF YOUR BIGGEST BOTTLES.
