Hi everyone, well since becomming the latest 2gnt member to have thier car busted into I decided it would be a good idea to get an alarm.What would you guys recommend or suggest? Iv included two links from ebay auctions Im thinking of, your advice is appreciated. And any other helpful hints are welcome. Thanks a lot.

Get a Viper, but don't get it off ebay. You have to buy it at a certified dealer and have a certified installer put it in. If you don't your warranty is null and void. And the Viper warranty is fuckin awesome. It's life-time "we don't give a fuck what happens we'll replace it" warranty. We rarely had problems at my shop with viper products. But if we did as soon as we figured out what the problem was we replaced the part for free with no labor charge.

Yeah Iv heard of that from a couple places, but I mean to buy an alarm and have it installed is like $500+. For the price I pay on ebay, I mean I could buy the alarm and all parts a couple times over. Do you really think its worth paying for the warrenty?
BTW:--It is illegal in Ontario to have a standard car with auto start. Weird but true.

i have a viper and it rocks. how comfortable are you with doing your own install if you buy one off ebay? installing an alarm is not hard just VERY time consuming and tedious to do correctly. the integrity of your alarm system is heavily dependant on how clean of an install you manage. if you know what you're doin and don't care about warranty then go ahead an save some bucks by installing your own. i'd still recommend buying a viper even if you're gonna install it yourself. dei stuff is nice. very nice.
i had a viper 500esp installed by the shop an later paid 'em a couple bucks to trade the brain for an 800esp. it rocks. 7 channels to play with. i've added A LOT of extra stuff so i like how versatile vipers are. my car now has a power trunk release on channel two. remote window roll down on channel 3. stereo on/off on channel 4. eventually probably headlights or something on channel 5. i added a unit for auto window roll up when arming too. i'm gonna be getting an apartment soon so i'll be adding a pager module as well.
i haven't had much experience with other brands but dei's stuff is very high quality. haven't had any problems with any components failing. plus the degree of customization via the built in programmable settings is just plain neat. go check out an install manual from their site if you like.
