Ok im going to buy a Optima red top becuase i have a red "theme" in my engine bay. I was going to buy an optima red top 75/35 710 cca and its pretty much the same size as my battery i have now. My question is this....the optima says 75/35 and the one in the car says 75/86. my question in what do that number mean? I know that the yellow top is the deep cycle but i dont have any crazy system on the car so i dont really care for it and im not about to paint the top of the battery

It's the model type, but don't worry about it, that red top will fit right in.

BTW, red tops are cheaper than yellow tops, and yellow tops shouldn't be used unless you have a reason to (red tops = starting battery, yellow top = deep cycle).

what about blue tops? i know they're marine but i thought some people used them anyways just to match their color scheme

You should never buy a battery to "fit your color scheme"...if you need a yellow cuz of a system-buy it. If you don't have a system get a red top. Stay the hell away from blue tops. If you're worried about the color paint the bitch, it ain't hard.

you should only use a yellow top as a second battery for the stereo for times when you run the system with the car off. if you use a yellow top as your primary battery, you shorten the life of it because it isnt designed for a continuous charge, but a full discharge then recharge (deepcycle).

Ok well this thread has me kinda confused on what battery to get...I will tell you what I am going to be running and you tell me what would be the best choice for my car. BTW My color scheme is silver and blue...not that matters thought.

2 - 1000 watt amps
2 - 7" monitors
stock mids and tweets
indiglo gauges
sony headunit
PS2

I just ordered a power converter but it hasn't come in yet.

What would be my best bet? What battery to use? Should I just get another one and intall it in the trunk as well as leaving the one under the hood. TIA

If you're putting a battery in your engine compartment that will be used at any time to start the car, buy a Red top. All redtop models will fit. The 75/35 is the closest to stock.

Unless you will be running your system for hours at an indoor show with the engine off, you don't need a second battery. If you plan to do indoor shows, put a Yellowtop in the trunk and charge it with a real charger.

If you don't like the color, they come from Optima with plastic condoms on each battery terminal for safety. Spray paint it, let it dry for a day, then remove the condoms and install it. Glue some felt to the battery tiedown so it doesn't scratch off the paint.

so what're the blue ones? not that i'm planning on getting one but i know some people used them in their cars even though they're marine batteries. were the blue ones deep cycle? i forget...
