I am putting 6 total speakers in my boat. I am wondering how i should wire them? Can i just splice 2 speakers into one connection. Like run 2 pairs in the front and 1 pair in the rear connections?

These are teh speakers i will be using if it makes any difference:

EDIT: i do not want to run another amp for these speakers, is there another way around this?

Let me just say it like this, unless you lower the impedance of the speakers on the channel w/ two pairs, then no, you'll damage the HU.

The correct way to do this would be to get a 4 channel aftermarket aftermarket amp using a RCA splitter to say put the front channels into the front and rear channels of the 4 channel amp.

EDIT:

Say your putting 4 speakers on just the front channel:

To lower the impedance you could wire the the two lefts in series going to the front left channel, then the rights in series going to the front right channel. (You'll have to fade it front to make it sound right.)

Yeah, don't wire 4 speakers to 2 channels of the HU. You can do it, but you will have to wire the speakers in series, NOT parallel. Parallel is when you just take both + leads together, and both - together. This cuts the impedance of the speaker load in half..eg if you have all 4 ohm speakers, you would get a 2 ohm load with 2 pairs wired in parallel. Series wiring you take the positive lead to one speaker from the HU, then take a wire from the - of the speaker, and connect that to the other speaker's positive, then from the other speaker's -, goes to the HU's -...kind of hard to explain without a diagram hehe..This way, the total impedance(4 ohm speakers) will be 8 ohms. Only drawback to this, is that it will cut your power available to each speaker by half too. A 2ohm stable 4 channel amp would be your best bet, and this lets you wire all 4 speakers to 2 channels safely(assuming its a 2 ohm stereo stable amp).

i think i will do that, b/c i font have the money to spare for an amp. This will work out nicely though b/c i will be running 4 speakers in the front and 2 in the rear. They are going in my boat.

If anyone could find me a diagram it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot for the help.

I just have to ask why you need to wire 6 speakers to you HU in an Eclipse? A good pair of components and amp should be sound better than 6 speakers off the HU

You can also get 4ohm resistors and put them on each speaker making them essentially 8ohm speakers. Then wire them in parallel to your head unit an it will work.

^^^but those resitors will still present an impedance to the current flow, causing heat and diverting the energy from the speaker. its not really any better than just wiring the speakers in series and leaving it at that. although you will be "pulling" more power from the HU, half of it will be wasted on heat in the resistors.

damn, thats some nice craftmanship! def. shoulda used MDF on the box, but the particle will hopefully hold up (im more worried about the eliments than the pressure from the drivers). is all the interior work custom (like the upholstery on the two inward firing speakers)?

all upholstery is stock. It took some balls to cut holes in the boat. The worst part was stabbing a knife into the seat cushions. "oouch" I hope i dont screw this up. Everything turned out exactly how i wanted and i got everythign for cheap.

pioneer mp3 cd player head unit 130
4 pioneer 180w speakers 100
bazooka amp 600 RMS 70
kenwoods and planet audios were left overs basically freebies
some wiring crap
underglow 50 bucks shipped

I have stopped work on my car so i could get the boat ready. It hsould be in the water any day now. Just gotta get off my ass and finish a few things and ask the 'rents for some help to launch the boat and shit.
