I am making a new fiberglass enclosure. My question is how much will the sound be affected if the enclosure isnt the required cubic feet. Im not sure if ill have enough air space with my new format. Will the sound greatly be affected, or just a small unoticable ammount?

air space makes a big difference. you really should try to stay as close to the manufacturers recommendations as possible. the loudness/clarity of the sub will be affected whether the box is too small, too big, ported or not.

Werd. Also remember to subtract the total displacement of your sub from the cubic feet of your enclosure. If the sub calls for a 1.0^3 foot enclosure but diplaces .65^3 feet you have to build your box to 1.65^3 feet.

The best way I have found to make the airspace correct in a fiberglass enclosure is to make it bigger than the spec just by very rough measurments and estimates. Once you have made the enclosure fill it full of water until its full. Subtract or add the sub displacment as Aaron pointed out to see how much bigger the encloser is. Finally fiberglass inside pieces of 2 X 4 or similar to get the enclosure to the correct spec. It sounds like alot of work but its really not that difficult once you have done it a couple of times.

i think they call that false hope man.... my advice, whatever your doing, dont.... and do it right the first time. i only read your origional post so i dont know your plan, but thats the general rule i stick to because in the end your just gonna be pissed for wasting time money and resources on something that doesnt do what you wanted it to.

What are you talking about? Im lost. I have allready built one fiberglass box myself. So i know the basics.

do the fiberglass "floor" first, then measure the displacement by filling the fiberglass piece w/ packing peanuts, sand, water, etc...and measureing the volume. subtract that number from the total amoutn of volume you wish to achieve, then design a rectangular (or square, or whatever) enclosure that attaches over the top of it. in other words, build the fiberglass enclosure in a way that is easy and strong, and then worry about making up the rest of the volume in a way that is simple math-wise (through the construction of a simple MDF box). in my eyes, its always better to be a little over the suggested volume than under, BTW.
