hey guys i was playing with a SONY CDX-M3DI head unit the other day at cicuitcity and DAMN... that unit an incredible display. awesome full color screen (the kind that they put on laptops) with beautiful animations and videos. now this's obviously the decks selling point, but its got some decent output and sound EQ's an stuff too. plus there's outputs to use an external amp. now i know sony car audio isn't exactly top of the line when it comes to sound quality. i just wanted to know whether it's anything noticeably bad. i'm not an audiophile but i'm also a musician and do my own home recording so i'm not exactly sonicaly impaired. before this i was leaning towards getting a high end alpine deck, but the displays just don't compare.

so yea, i'm looking for sound quality but appearance an stuff is definately important to me too. anyone have experience with this deck or know anything about it? thanks in advance!

and no i don't plan on buying from crutchfield... emoji
they just have a lot of in-depth info

CDXL550x...no skips or problems here...good sound IMO...as long as you don't have factory speakers you'll be fine.

yea it's a discontinued model (the new 2004 should be out in a couple months) so the price's dropped. i've seen it for $400-500ish online. not too bad. you gotta actually play with the thing to appreciate the graphics. the pics online do it no justice. damn i like the flames animation emoji

hmm well glad to hear everyone's had pretty good experiences with sony HU...

I haven't had a sony HU in a long time. Mainly because every one i've had i've blown up. my first one i blew the entire right channel out, to the point where there was absolutely no signal for the channel at all, be it from the HU's amplifier or the RCA preouts. The second one I had I blew the entire thing u emoji So I wouldnt recommend sony. Alot of my friends have them as well, and the buttons get worn out quick, etc.. stupid little things that annoy the piss out of you. I left sony for alpine and have been relatively happy with them.

I've got a sony CDX-CA660X head unit, its got a lot of cool and useful features compared to a prior pioneer I had in my talon...but the sony one skips often, sometimes even from a door shutting. But I wouldnt consider spending the money to replace it, everything else on it works great.

My wife has the cdx m-750 mp3 and it kicks ass, I have the cdx-m8800 from best buy and it is way better than my wifes. I have owned(last two months) a pioneer deh 6600(returned it because the oel face fuct up) and an kenwood kdc-mp650(it just plain sucked)I am way more impressed by these two sony decks than ANY deck I have listened to with the exception of the alpine xlphantom. The clairty is nice and for some reason the sony's midrange sounds way better than pioneer. My .0 emoji sony

And no Flame Returns
