After much searching and researching I am going to install an aftermarket HU in my ’95 GS. This is going to be installed this way for a little while until my budget allows for amps and speakers.

Here is what I have so far thanks to all of the great info on this site.

Clarion DXZ835MP - Head Unit.
Sound Gate #MITSRCVR – DIN to RCA adapter cable for amp
Metra #70 –7001 Factory harness adapter
Mitsubishi #MR147142 – Single Din Pocket.

Before I remove the console and radio I am trying to get everything in order for what hopefully will be a smooth install. I thought it would be until I looked at the PDF file for the 2g wiring diagram for the radio. If I am reading it right, the front and rear speakers appear to be spliced to both the head unit and the amp.

How so or am I reading it wrong? Also is there anything else I am missing? I have tried to be thorough in my searching.

ok first off, if you don't disconnect anything in the amp, you only have to hook the HU up to the wires coming from the center console...BUT LET ME CAUTION YOU!!! I blew my speakers (crappy stockers) with an Alpine HU and that bad bad factory Amp....i HIGHLY reccommend either

a) doing what you are going to do w/the expectation that your speakers will last no longer than 6 months (mine lasted 3 wired this way)

b) just take the extra minute and run the wires from the HU to the wires at the amp, then splice there...you're gonna hafta cut it up when you get an aftermarket amp anyways, or when you get aftermarket speakers, as you don't wanna blow those...

THe problem (that I can see) with the factory amp is that there is no way to control its (very low) output, so whenever you turn up the speakers to any normal to high level, you're pushing the amp way too hard. I think my aftermarket HU made this problem worse...

just my 2 cents, but SPL eclipse and PUddogg taught me a coupla things w/amp installs and i learned alot from my mistakes, so shoot me any more questions you like, or heed their advice if they give it, they know what they're talking about...
