#7761, "Speaker questions about tweeters and front speakers"

Heres teh deal, i have pioneer 6.5's all the way around front and back. My back speakers are like twice as loud as my front ones. Why would the back be louder? I have different gauge wire running to the back ones. WOuld this cause more power to go to the back isntead of the front? Should i rewire my door speakers with larger guage wire instead of teh tiny stock wiring?

Also, how do i wire my dash tweeters? The previous owner cut the stock wiring harness so i need to know which wires are meant for the tweeters? Thanks.

well technically, yes, but only about .000000001 or so more watts, lol. upgrading the speaker wire will not result in a percievable difference in volume.

"Should i rewire my door speakers with larger guage wire instead of teh tiny stock wiring?"

no, theres no reason to. emoji the rear speakers are louder because of several things...they probably have more surface area (depending on the size speaker you are using), they are more sensative, they are better aimed phase wise (so you are percieveing them to be louder) and any other number of causes. the obvious solution is to turn the fader more toward the front on your headunit. i would also try reversing the mechanical phase on one of the speakers by simply swapping the + and - leads on the speaker. i would suggest doing this on the passengers side. it may or may not help.

"Also, how do i wire my dash tweeters? The previous owner cut the stock wiring harness so i need to know which wires are meant for the tweeters? Thanks."

how do you plan to run the tweets? i dont think you will be happy with the results, as you will get a severe boost in upper level frequencies (considering the pioneers alread have an intigrated tweet), and the end result will probably sound sub-par.

how is the system set up now? if you are just running the speakers off the headunit, i would try what i mentioned above, or get an external amp (it doesnt have to be anything big or fancy) to add some extra power to the front.

:shhh: i do cocaine :/shhh:

doh, guess i should have visited the cardomain page in your sig, lol.

if i were you, i would damp and seal the doors. the front speakers are not very well sealed, and because of back-wave interference you are probably geting severe cancellation. you probably have horrible midbass and bass out of the front speakers, right? do everything you can to seal up all the wholes inside the inner door, and use dynamat (or brown bread or fatmat, ect..) to form a seal that seperates the rear waves of the speaker form the front. that should significantly smooth out the frequency responce and give you a bit more volume. if that doenst do it for you, invest in an amp like i mentioned in the first post. emoji

thanks for the help, another thing too, i just used 3/8 plywood for the door speakers b/c the prev. owner didnt have the speaker brackets.

The main thing with the tweeters is that i am trying to get some more sound to the front. I get plenty of bass from my subs, i am just trying to even it out with some different set-ups int he front. I could just adjust the fader and stuff on the head-unit, but:shrug.

So with the tweeters, do i just splice into the front speakers wire?

Just a side note, I was quite please when I added my 7/8" Alpine tweeters under my windshield (I gutted the stock ones which were blown, and reused the grills). They have great acoustics being at the bottom of the windshield, and as long as they arn't overpowered then the highs won't drown anything out.

Let me help here... the reason the rears are louder are because they are pointed directly at you. You can do 2 things... one, fade the head unit to the front to where the sound is equal. Or two, you can get some tweeters for the front and mount them in the A pillar. That will help raise the sound stage, but the rears still might overpower the fronts. So most likely you will need to fade the deck anyways.

As far as installing the tweeters goes, splice into the speaker wires and run that to your crossover for the tweeters and then to the tweeters. Make sure you use a crossover or you will destroy your tweets. Hope this helps.

Brynden

The factory tweeter locations under the windshield will have better acoustics then if they were placed on the A-pillars.

^^not necisarily true. it depends on the phase dispersion and frequency responce of the tweets...and the rest of the system. ive found that in most instances an a-piller mounted tweet will result in a more natural and neutral response.

if you want to wire the tweets in w/ the pioneers, you COULD run them in parallel, but series is a better idea. read this thread to get my thoughts on the matter:
