Yes 20k with labor that is, not just parts, LOL! I need a damn good alarm system to keep my car now. Electric shocks are good to go, a voice recording sayin "get the f*** out my car" or something similar. I dont mind spending 1k just be keep my car.

GARAGE IT.. I'VE LEARNED NO MATTER WHAT ALARM YOU HAVE IF SOMEONE WANTS WHAT YOU HAVE AND ITS OUT IN THE OPEN THEY WILL TAKE IT NO MATTER WHAT. THE NEXT BEST THING WOULD BE SOME SORT OF SET UP WHERE IT DELIEVES A SHOCK WHEN YOU TOUCH THE CAR BUT I SEE THAT CAUSING A LAW SUITE. I'D LOOK INTO CLIFFORD THEY HAVE TIP,SHOCK,RADAR,GLASS, PROTECTION AND THAT PAGER GOOD UP TO A HALF MILE THAT LETS YA KNOW IF SOMETHING IS HAPPENING TO YOUR CAR.

There are ways to install a security system that, unless they are CIA Covert Ops, won't practically be able to get in.

I don't have the model number but DEI has a Viper model that pages you via a free celualar service so that it has infinate range, monitors all zones, etc... etc...

Now, to keep you alarm from getting disabled there are things you do to prevent this: Have alarm backup batteries (small and fit in crazy places like inside the frame). Use relays wired to your starter killer to also kill things like the fuel pump power. Hide the brain in a spot which even if you knew exactly where it is, it will take you a long time to get to, such as removing your dash and putting it in a pocket.

Other things to do are to get DEI pain generators and install them in the air ducts, so intruders will get paralized if they manage to make it in the car.

Put locking hood pins in addition (or to replace) the factory hood release.

Use shock, tilt, motion, etc... sensors.

The #1 theft deterent is still a blinking LED(s) or scanner.

If your real serious and want to protect your car from getting shorted by a professional car booster ground your alarm to it's own ground (basically a small metal plate connected to the frame via rubber legs). You can even rewire your ignition wires / etc... so they don't corrispond to stock dsms.

Man I could go on all day about security, the bottom line is that theft can be prevented.

The best part about a paging alarm is when you greet someone snooping around your car with a corked baseball bat.

hmmm, well for a grand, heres what i would do: install whatever alarm you would like, and the set up cameras on the rear view mirror, center consol, and hatch. wire a relay so that when the alarm is triggered, the cameras capture video (and/or sound) to a VCR (hidden, of course). that way you would have the thiefs on tape. ive seen a navigator that had this feature on it, and it was amazing. it had motion detectors hidden, so that the VCR only recorded on the camera that was in the active area. i plan on doing it in the next few years.

most alarm systems will fend off thiefs looking to take the whole car, but are fairly ineffective for "smash and grab" crooks. there is absolutly nothing you can do against these types of crooks, but i figure capturing thier image is a pretty good idea.

Razor blades? Hehehe, a bit too harsh for my liking, but if it's a joke then it's ok. Your ideas sound good. I'll try and search more about the subject, but keep them comming.

I mentioned locking hood pins, but a better idea would be to pull the hood release through the firewall, into the engine bay, and wire a trunk release actuator to it, so your keypad controls your hood release. (and you could install it in a spot near the bottom of the engine bay in case your battery ever goes dead. (or just run a positive lead from your battery somewhere near the bottom, covered of course)

I would agree with 98starGS's post above. Clifford makes some bad ass stuff and they warrenty up to like $5000 as far as I know for anything stolen. Hoever to buy a top of the line Clifford and get it installed may run a little over $1,000... to get the warrenty it has to be 'installed by an authorized dealer'.
I currently have (had) the Viper 790VX (i think) which is the cell phone like reciever that tells you what is being triggered on the car. Mine dosnt have a proxy sensor though, and I dont know if Viper makes one for it. All the matter, they are both DEI.
DEI is the better name to go with.
A garage is also a definate.

If your super serious about your security you should do your alarm yourself, unless you can find a shop you trust more.

You can hook up virtually anything up to DEI and Crimestopper alarms, including proxy sensors (just involves some wire tappage if not a direct plugin).

i like the razor blades thing... basically you attach razors/needles in discreet places on your HU or amp or whatever else you think they might wanna grab. put it in places where they'll hafta stick their hands. if someone breaks in an just trys to pull your HU or amp or whatever, they get their fingers thoroughly fucked. REMEMBER where you put them though (if you ever hafta work on stuff). oh it's also good to know so you can tell the mechanics if you gotta bring it in to a shop... they might get mad.

just outta curiosity would anyone happen to know the legal aspects of doin somethin like this? i mean thieves sue people when they get hurt on someone's property while breaking in so i imagine this would be some thing similar... kinda sucks if they break in, jack their fingers, then sue your ass and get more than they would've if they jacked your stuff
