i put in a 4 channel amp for my interior speakers. whenever i put my radio to volume 23 it seems like the amp shuts off, but i can still hear the music faintly, then it'll turn on for a second, then shut off. if the song is kinda bassy or theres a real distinct high, it'll do this at a lower volume. i put my friends 4 channel in thinking its my amp and it does the same thing- im thinking its the speakers (overpowering them). i put them in years ago, dont know the wattage on them. would overpowering my speakers cause this to happen?

Then it could be something wrong with the DSP. Next time it goes soft, look at the amp. Most have a LED the shows when it is in protection mode. Also, feel the AMP. If it is very hot then that is probably what it is. The ony thing that makes me think it might be the signal (HU/DSP) is that usually when an amp goes into protection mode, you wont hear anything.
