#7279, "LCS screen info"

I need to contact HondaHater...those that remember him -- have his s/n or e-mail? Thanks.

Actually I could just ask the question here. He had this setup. He replaced his rear view mirror with an LCD screen, and placed a small camera at the rear of his car to use as a digital rear view mirror. I want to do this, but I also want to be able to switch the screen out of 'mirror-mode' and use it for DVD's or games too.

To do this, I know I need an LCD screen. I have found them on ebay pretty cheap. Any suggestion on other devices I need. Which camera, a switch box or something...how would that hook up? Anyone with info Id appreciate it.

What I think I need:

-LCD screen
-Camera
-Some type of switch box or something to switch between camera and dvd/ps2
-Something to run sound through my speakers

Thanks for any info

ok, here we go..............

All parts were bought off ebay, now the lcd is a lcd that has a built in aux input so it has 2 vedio inputs, so all I have to do is push the buttion on the lcd and it changes, if you find one without that option, you will have to buy a vedio selector, just go to radioshack and buy one. The camera was a spy camera, just make sure when you buy it it runs off 12vdc and your set. anything else just ask

PS- to find my email, just go to the 2gnt member directory on the top of the forms and it will tell you

They also have LCD screens built in to rear view mirrors. It's like a two-inch or three-inch screen that is in the corner of the mirror, and the rest is just like a normal mirror. I think that would be the cleanest possible install.

HondaHater, can you send me some pics?

And also...a tad more detail on the wiring...

Lets say my LCD screen doesn't have 2 video inputs, so I need a switch box, that's fine. You have the LCD screen which has a video in. The single camera video wire will go to the switch box in "Lets say Port A" and then I run my PS2 AV wires (red, white, yellow) to "Port B" on the switchbox. Then from the switch box "Main port" I I run the AV wires to the screen. Do switch boxes even have 3 inputs for both audio's and the video? Pics and info! I'll be buying the stuff soon.

Also. TFT LCD screens are better than STN screens right? AS for the camera, which is better 1. Lux or .5 Lux?

p.s. It'd be really nice if you could take a pic of your inputs and plugs...etc...also the mounting of the camera in the keyhole... I'd REALLY appreciate it.

well, the LCD will only have videp in, no L/R auidio, you will need to run that to your radio, So I have a radioshack video switcher, it has the hook ups for video and audio, but I only use the video only, and yes, thay make them where you can switch 3. I personaly have a TV tunner that has 2 aux inputs, so I have the TV, dvd, and games on the tunner

Do switch boxes even have 3 inputs for both audio's and the video?

yup

I have the only pics posted, any others are to hard to get to since they are all hidden and mixed up with all the others

you plug it in to the FM modulator, and it gives off a radio frequency (usally 89.1). and you tune into the radio frequency on your radio and it plays through that. add-on cd changers use fm modulators.

There are a variety of 'spy-cams' on ebay. Some that are extremely cheap and some 'bullet spy cams' that cost about 79.00 and have 470lines of display....

What camera did you use?

Secondly, what is the exact difference between TFT and STN display screens? Is TFT worth the extra cash? Is that what you have?'

Finally, you mounted your camera in you hatch keyhole. What parts did you have to remove to access the hole. DId moving these parts screw up you 'pop lever' ability?

Sorry for all the questions, this whole idea is just really cool to me, and I'm am taking my car in some other directions...

Thanks in advance

How much did you pay for it, and how is the resolution. Is it really clear with a high frame rate? Any trouble with it seeing in the dark?
