#6673, "New owner. Bad reception."

Hi all. I just purchased my 95 GST last week. I love the car!

One problem I'm having is that I'm getting terrible reception. The FM stations are coming in fairly weak, and forget about AM (sad too, because my favorite sports talk radio station is on AM). Any suggestions on how to check/fix this? The car has the typical exterior antenna, plus the antenna integrated in the rear window.

Also, the sound output tends to be a little weak. Is this typical of the stock infinity sound system? I thought the infinity would have a good sound, but my wife's SUV sounds better. As far as I can tell, there aren't any speakers blown, but it still sounds weak. It's the model with the tape deck and the built in equalizer.

Thanks in advance for any help.

take out the center console, pull the radio and check to see if the antenna's are plugged in.
Seeing how you bought it used, the previous owner may have had an aftermarket deck and thrown the factory radio back in without hooking them up.

If that's not the problem pull the panels of the hatch area to inspect the rear antenna from inside the car. I had water which leaked throught the antenna and it ran over a connection to the antenna which I think caused bad reception. Hope this help emoji

Thanks guys.

Does the stock infinity system really sound that bad? It sounds like I'm listening through tin cans and a string. Again, I don't think any of the speakers are blown, but I expected much better quality and power from infinity.

I have the Infinity stereo with aftermarket speakers and it sounds pretty good. There's no heart pounding bass or anything like that, but it does sound loud and clear.

Sorry I haven't replied earlier. I've been out of town for a few days.

First, a stupid question - how do I get take off the center console. I know, I know, RTFM, but hey, I just got the car, so I'm hoping for a little freedom here. I'll get the manual soon before I do any major work.

Second, I just realized last night that the infinity system has an stock amp under the passenger seat (again, new owner). What's the specs on the stock inifinity amp, and do any of you use it with aftermarket receivers/speakers?

Sorry for the elementary questions.
