#6668, "Sony X-plode problems"

Hey all,

I have a problem that's really bumming me out. When I bought my car it had an x-plode series system in it....the kind with the flip down face and remote. Well just recently after driving for a bit the tuner portion cuts out completely, but the cd player still works fine. Then when I switch back after awhile the radio works fine again...for a while. I thought it might just be the antenna connection but when I completely sepparate it I still get a little reception. So I think it's probably an internal problem with the tuner. Is this common with sony's? Has anybody experienced this before? Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't really want to go back to the stock tape deck if I can help it, but I also don't want to spend a couple of hundrend on a new unit emoji Please let me know what you think.

Prob something in the tuner circuit like you said, but u never know. I'll sell you my kenwood cd player for say $90 shipped tho. I need to upgrade to something that'll play mp3s anyway. emoji

Anyone know anyone who can help me tune this in the Pittsburgh area (Greensburg)?

blah...that's not what I wanted to hear. Oh well...I think I'll just use it 'till it dies. Or maybe I'll contact Sony and see what they say...I'd have it fixed for a resonable cost...a c-note or so. Thanx for th offer but I think I'll pass on the kenwood, I've always loved the name but haven't had much luck with their products,,,,not that sony is looking any better..LO emoji

i had sony in my nissan before the explode series came out, no problems. but i tried some explode 6.5s in my doors and they were just crap. i personally would never use explode even though i have friends with the series and love it. i only use pioneer head units now, never had a problem. just my 2 cents.

I had a sony x-plode and always had problems with it. CD's not reading, no radio, fading sound, skipping (god that thing skipped all the tim emoji ). IMO, sony sucks! I will never ever buy another sony audio product again. Sorry about the rant.

i've heard so much about this problem, but never experienced it, and i've had 2 different xplode head units! mine does how ever have errors w/CDRs some times, and some times the display cuts off, it still works fine just the screen is off... other then that it's been pretty good to me... and my next HU is gonna be either a sony (the one w/the color screen that shows pictures and animations and the such, or the panasonic Ghost, i love them both...

My friend has that HU,the one that flips down, is silver, and has the blue display? He had skipping issues, no read on cd's, ect..Must be a bad design or something..I have LOTS of Sony products, and have never had one issue with them. Hell, i use a Sony ES HU that is prob 5 years old now, and still works like new. I use all Sony home audio stuff too, and never had an issue..

i think my next head unit will be that panasonic ghost touch screen, if not that then the kenwood or eclipse are my alternatives... my boy's got an eclipse HU in his corolla and that thing is sweet, some nice programable safety fetures and all sorts of option...

well i think your best bet is to buy a better unit, good luck
