#6343, "Shaving antenna... how to get reception?"

I plan on shaving my rear spoiler and figured while I'm at it, I'll shave the antenna as well. My question is, does anybody know of, or recommend, any 'hidden' antenna or something I can put in the wheel well so I can still get some reception?

Hmmm... I'm not sure that's what I'm looking for. That looks like a fixed mast flexible antenna. I'm gonna look what Radio Shack has to offer...

I just bought one at Pep Boys for $20... it looks just like the one on autoloc.com. It sticks on the glass and has a built in amplifier.

It says reception is as good as a 31" antenna... hmmm, I dunno about that, but I'm gonna try it out later and let you all know if it's any good.

^^There's adhesive under the green tape. It's supposed to stick on the top portion of the hatch glass, about 1/2 inch away from the frame.

http://www.megawave.com

is where i work. antennas is my middle name.

"covert" antennas have been around for quite some time, we've done some work for the FBI on invisible antennas (no, not the "a few extra wires in your rear defroster" thing) that mount on windsheilds and are completely transparent. if you look REALLY close, you can see a long triangular unit that resembles very light tint. some really cool stuff. too bad they're insanely expensive, because the resistivelly loaded fan pattern needs to be sputtered onto a film. not exactly consumer prices.

however, the MTV is an excellent antenna. works well in the FM band, VHF, and UHF TV bands. i swiped one of them from my work for some girl i know, and she was like "holy shit! i can actually watch the simpsons now." her old antenna was so drunk.

anyways, i'm done.

I shaved my antenna and god xm radio w/ a low pro roof mount antenna.

Damn xm radio is sweet, especially if you got a nice system and your cd's get old from listening to them to much, I'll never go on a car trip w/o it.

micyek, sorry I just shaved the original spoiler to put this one on. emoji

farmdogg, yes I absolutely recommend it. I was seriously impressed to find out I can actually get FM stations in stereo now. I think there was something wrong with my old antenna cause it rarely did that before... and it used to fade in and out. Not anymore!

EDIT: Oh and it picks up AM stations too... nice and clear. In case anyone was wondering. emoji

We are shaving the antenna too but we don't want anything on the glass or even remotely visable. Can you mount that under the plastic covers in the roof? Will it still get good reception?

When I shaved the antenna on my old Cavalier, we just grounded the antenna to the car body, ,so my whole car was kinda an antenna. It worked really good actually, as well as the stock antenna...
