Hey all, I have a JVC CD/MP3 headunit, one 12inch Alpine TypeR sub and one MTX 400W Mono amp. Last night I was sitting in a parking lot with the car running listening to a cd, when I went and cranked the volume up, the headunit shut off like it had been turned off. I cant get it to turn back on. Also, I dont think there is any power going to the amp becuase the red power light that's normally on wont light up now. I checked the fuse for the radio in the engine compartment, the fuse for the amp power, fuse on back of headunit, and fuse on the amp. None were blown. Any suggestions?? Thanks.

the ground on the headunit was ok, but I wouldn't think if it was a ground it would just shut off like that when nothings moving around

hey man, I had the EXACT same thing happen to my system. I wasn't getting any power to the back of my headunit all of a sudden. I couldn't tell you what to do because this happened to me a week ago and i still haven't found out what was wrong. And with the amp, i fried it. I actually took it apart and 3 of the transistors were blown along with the actual board. I don't know if this is your problem but you might want to check to see if you are still getting juice to the back of the headunit. Just a thought. Hope this might help.

I dont have a clue what could have happened, I'm about to just pull the amp, sub, and headunit and sell it all, then buy something cheap and just say screw it.

If your remote (wire that turns on your amp) is coming from the headunit and your headunit is fried your amp will not get any juice either. it sounds like the headunit is the only problem i would check that first before you throw everything away.

this is very strange...normally headunits dont just "die" in that fashoin...although it is possible.

if that is the case, the above post is correct in saying the the lack of a turn-on sire signal will keep the amp from turning on. to check this, you can simply take a short piece of wire and "jump" it from the + battery connection to the remote turnb on connection on the amp. the power LED should light up. if the amp DOES come on, that should add further evedence to the fact that the headunit is the culprit. if it DOESNT light up, it could mean that either the amp is bad or that the amp isnt seeing voltage at its + or - terminals. in that scenario, i would whip out the multimeter and check each terminal to see what is going on.

BTW, the factory headunit harnesses dont have a built in ground wire, you have to ground the aftermarket headunit manually. this could have possibly lead to the demise of the JVC if you didnt take that into consideration.

k, this is what you do.
take out your head unit and check the inline fuse thats:

a: in your remote wire (i have one for some some odd reason)
b: check the inline fuse in either the red(pos) and/or yellow(acc).

b is most likey the reason why its not turning on. check that and gimme reply.

"yellow is .8"

uhh...thats not good, lol. i would be thankfull though, all you have to do is run a new wire or find out why the voltage is low.
