#5951, "amp safe mode light?"

The amp is in my g/f's car and the safe mode light came on. I threw out the owners manual after i installed it and have checked all the connections and fuses but the light is still on. Am i missing something?

You could have a blown amp.

Here's a couple of questions that we need, in order to properly help you:

What kind of amp?
How many subs?
Ohm load of the subs?
Which protection light is on, overcurrent or protection?

Good luck to ya!

^^^agreed. also check to make sure one of the speaker wires didnt come loose and short out to either ground or another wire. amps dont like to see zero ohms of resistance.

Also your:

Wattage, Power and Ground cable gauge, fuse size and location of fuse (where in line) and ground location.

Please tell me you have a fuse within 18" of the batter and you're not just using the ones on the amp...that's a definate nono

not having a fuse in the right place or not having one at all would not make the amp light go off.

Common reasons for amps to shut down:

Short Circuit (enough said)
Overcurrent or voltage (too much current or voltage or not enough voltage, depends on amp)
Thermal protection (not enough ventalation or too low a load)

If you get a large powersurge which would blow a fuse (but none was there to blow) and it wasn't large enough to melt the wire it could fuck up your amp.

Used to be an insaller bro, see that shit all the time.

Sorry it took me so long to reply ive been underway on my cutter for three weeks. The fuse on the power cable is 10inches from the battery the ground cable is 10inches long and solidly conected to a bolt under the seat, the speaker wire is connected properly, i have checked all t fuses and all connections including the ones behind the cd player. Im almost positive the amp is blown.
