Just bought a kicker kx.800, it has a max draw of 120 ampheres and ill be running it at around 600 watts rms. Do I really need 2 gauge or will four gauge do?


Also, I already bought the meanest battery I could fit in the stock holder, should I get a cap? I read somewhere reputable that caps aren't really worth it.

i would say 4 guage would be fine, but if you can do 2 then why not. i would only get a cap if you see your lights dimming. i am running two amps off an ordinary battery with 4 guage and i dont have any need for a cap.

agreed. if you really plan on getting every last watt out of the amp, go with 2 guage. its only marginally more expensive and will leave you with upgradability down the road. hoever, if you think you can resist the temptaion to crank the gains, you should be fine with 4. make sure that you fuse it correctly, though: no bigger that a 100 amp fuse on the 4 guage.

im not a fan of caps either. i dont think youll have a problem with drawing too much current, so i wouldnt worry about it.
